Team Khan
Documentary
‘Team Khan’ is a fly-on-the-wall documentary about professional boxer Amir Khan, filmed between 2014 - 2016. The documentary follows Khan as he chases a fight with the unbeaten superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. Outside of the ring Amir must grapple with the significance of family, fame, and religion, as he grows from being boxing's golden child into a man. Under the guidance of new trainer Virgil Hunter, Amir first puts on a stunning performance beating former world champion Devon Alexander in Las Vegas. Buzz around a potential showdown with Mayweather grows, but he opts to fight Manny Pacquiao instead. Amir then goes on to defeat Chris Algieri in Brooklyn by unanimous decision, but the fight is a much closer encounter than many had anticipated and Amir is seen as underperforming. Mayweather again looks over Amir as his opponent, and then retires from Boxing. With his dream fight now gone, Amir’s career is thrown into a period of uncertainty. He reflects on his sporting journey and recognizes that at almost thirty, he’s nearing the end of the road. Suddenly there’s a shock announcement that Amir is to step up two weight divisions, to fight Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez. It’s a very dangerous fight, but if he wins Amir will cement his legacy as a great in the sport of boxing. Amir and Virgil thoroughly prepare for the challenge.
